

Much of the early fiction was written for children (magazines in Britain, books in America) but pulp detective writers also embraced the theme and the first movie novel was a 1909 Nick Carter detective story.

Early stories often involved seeing someone in a news film in a theatre, but there were also stories about people using cinematograph equipment, or working in various sectors of the industry. Includes illustrations.įiction about (or involving) moving pictures began to be written almost as soon as writers became aware of the new invention. Many of the fiction works in this bibliography are described for the first time. Previous attempts to document film-related fiction have mainly limited themselves to American fiction from 1912 onward and are primarily limited to novels.
